  Maidan \Mai*dan"\, n. [Written also {midan}, {meidan}, {mydan},
     etc.] [Hind. & Per. maid[=a]n, fr. Ar. maid[=a]n.]
     In various parts of Asia, an open space, as for military
     exercises, or for a market place; an open grassy tract; an
     esplanade.
