Lithophyte \Lith"o*phyte\, n. [Litho- + Gr. ? plant: cf. F.
lithophyte.] (Zool.)
A hard, or stony, plantlike organism, as the gorgonians,
corals, and corallines, esp. those gorgonians having a
calcareous axis. All the lithophytes except the corallines
are animals.
