     A prefix from L. laevus, meaning:
     (a) Pertaining to, or toward, the left; as, levorotatory.
     (b) (Chem. & Opt.) Turning the plane of polarized light to
         the left; as, levotartaric acid; levoracemic acid;
         levogyratory crystals, etc. [Written also {l[ae]vo-}.]
