  Kalmia \Kal"mi*a\, n. [NL. Named in honor of Peter Kalm, a
     Swedish botanist.] (Bot.)
     A genus of North American shrubs with poisonous evergreen
     foliage and corymbs of showy flowers. Called also {mountain
     laurel}, {ivy bush}, {lamb kill}, {calico bush}, etc.
