     1. (Eccl. Hist.) A Dominican friar; -- so named because,
        before the French Revolution, that order had a convent in
        the Rue St. Jacques, Paris.

        Jacobin convent in the Rue St. Jacques, Paris, and
        concerted measures to control the proceedings of the
