     n. {Impeding}.] [L. impedire, lit., to entangle the feet;
     pref. im- in + pes, pedis, foot. See {Foot}, and cf.
     {Impeach}.]
     To hinder; to stop in progress; to obstruct; as, to impede
     the advance of troops.
