  Hydrotheca \Hy`dro*the"ca\, n.; pl. L. {Hydrothec[ae]}, E.
     {Hydrothecas}. [NL., fr. E. hydra + Gr. ? a box.] (Zool.)
     One of the calicles which, in some Hydroidea (Thecaphora),
     protect the hydrants. See Illust. of {Hydroidea}, and
     {Campanularian}.
