     vb. n. {Hinting}.] [OE. henten, hinten, to seize, to catch,
     AS. hentan to pursue, take, seize; or Icel. ymta to mutter,
     ymtr a muttering, Dan. ymte to whisper. [root]36. Cf.

     suggest in an indirect manner; as, to hint a suspicion.
