  Hexane \Hex"ane\, n. [Gr. "e`x six.] (Chem.)
     Any one of five hydrocarbons, {C6H14}, of the paraffin
     series. They are colorless, volatile liquids, and are so
     called because the molecule has six carbon atoms.
