  Hemibranchi \Hem`i*bran"chi\, n. pl. [NL. See {Hemi-}, and
     {Branchia}.] (Zool.)
     An order of fishes having an incomplete or reduced branchial
     apparatus. It includes the sticklebacks, the flutemouths, and
     Fistularia.
