  Hellespont \Hel"les*pont\, n. [L. Hellespontus, Gr. ?; ? the
     mythological Helle, daughter of Athamas + ? sea.]
     A narrow strait between Europe and Asia, now called the
     {Daradanelles}. It connects the Aegean Sea and the sea of
     Marmora.
