  Hairtail \Hair"tail`\ (-t[=a]l`), n. (Zool.)
     Any species of marine fishes of the genus {Trichiurus}; esp.,
     {Trichiurus lepturus} of Europe and America. They are long
     and like a band, with a slender, pointed tail. Called also
     {bladefish}.
