  Gula \Gu"la\, n.; pl. L. {Gulae}, E. {Gulas}. [L., the throat,
     gullet.]
     1. (Zool.)
        (a) The upper front of the neck, next to the chin; the
            upper throat.
        (b) A plate which in most insects supports the submentum.
