  Fortuitous \For*tu"i*tous\, a. [L. fortuitus; akin to forte,
     adv., by chance, prop. abl. of fors, fortis, chance. See
     {Fortune}.]

        without any known cause; chance; as, the fortuitous
        concourse of atoms.
