     {Flattered}; p. pr. & vb. n. {Flattering}.] [OE. flateren,
     cf. OD. flatteren; akin to G. flattern to flutter, Icel.
     fla[eth]ra to fawn, flatter: cf. F. flatter. Cf. {Flitter},
