  Ferric \Fer"ric\, a. [L. ferrum iron: cf. F. ferrique. See
     {Ferrous}.]
     Pertaining to, derived from, or containing iron. Specifically
     (Chem.), denoting those compounds in which iron has a higher
     valence than in the ferrous compounds; as, ferric oxide;
     ferric acid.
