  Fer-de-lance \Fer`-de-lance"\, n. [F., the iron of a lance,
     lance head.] (Zool.)
     A large, venomous serpent ({Trigonocephalus lanceolatus}) of
     Brazil and the West Indies. It is allied to the rattlesnake,
     but has no rattle.
