  Expand \Ex*pand"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Expanded}; p. pr. & vb.
     n. {Expanding}.] [L. expandere, expansum; ex out + pandere to
     spread out, to throw open; perh. akin to E. patent. Cf.
     {Spawn}.]
