     oecumenicus, Gr. ? (sc. ?) the inhabited world, fr. ? to
     inhabit, from o'i^kos house, dwelling. See {Economy}.]
     General; universal; in ecclesiastical usage, that which
     concerns the whole church; as, an ecumenical council.
