  Ectolecithal \Ec`to*lec"i*thal\, a. [Ecto- + Gr. ? the yolk of
     an egg.] (Biol.)
     Having the food yolk, at the commencement of segmentation, in
     a peripheral position, and the cleavage process confined to
     the center of the egg; as, ectolecithal ova.
