  Dotation \Do*ta"tion\, n. [LL. dotatio, fr. L. dotare to endow,
     fr. dos, dotis, dower: cf. F. dotation. See {Dot} dowry.]
     1. The act of endowing, or bestowing a marriage portion on a
        woman.
