     dinotherium, fr. Gr. deino`s terrible + qhri`on beast.]
     (Paleon.)
     A large extinct proboscidean mammal from the miocene beds of
     Europe and Asia. It is remarkable for a pair of tusks
     directed downward from the decurved apex of the lower jaw.
