  Commiseration \Com*mis`er*a"tion\, n. [F. commis['e]ration, fr.
     L. commiseratio a part of an oration intended to excite
     compassion.]
     The act of commiserating; sorrow for the wants, afflictions,
     or distresses of another; pity; compassion.
