  Colossus \Co*los"sus\, n.; pl. L. {Colossi}, E. {Colossuses}.

     1. A statue of gigantic size. The name was especially applied
        to certain famous statues in antiquity, as the Colossus of
        Nero in Rome, the Colossus of Apollo at Rhodes.
