  Chinquapin \Chin"qua*pin\, n. (Bot.)
     A branching, nut-bearing tree or shrub ({Castanea pumila}) of
     North America, from six to twenty feet high, allied to the
     chestnut. Also, its small, sweet, edible nat. [Written also
     {chincapin} and {chinkapin}.]
