  Caracara \Ca`ra*ca"ra\ (k[aum]`r[.a]k[aum]"r[.a]), n. (Zool.)
     A south American bird of several species and genera,
     resembling both the eagles and the vultures. The caracaras
     act as scavengers, and are also called {carrion buzzards}.
