     Calliope, Gr. Kallio`ph, lit, the beautiful-voiced; pref.
     kalli- (from kalo`s beautiful) + 'o`ps, 'opo`s, voice.]
     1. (Class. Myth.) The Muse that presides over eloquence and
        heroic poetry; mother of Orpheus, and chief of the nine
        Muses.
