     {Astringed} (-tr[i^]njd"); p. pr. & vb. n. {Astringing}
     (-j[i^]ng).] [L. astringere; ad + stringere to draw tight.

     1. To bind fast; to constrict; to contract; to cause parts to
        draw together; to compress.
