  Arthrospore \Ar"thro*spore\, n. [Gr. ? joint + E. spore.]
     (Bacteriol.)
     1. A bacterial resting cell, -- formerly considered a spore,
        but now known to occur even in endosporous bacteria.

        certain fungi. Called also {oidium}.
