  Amphictyony \Am*phic"ty*o*ny\, n.; pl. {Amphictyonies}. [Gr. ?.]
     (Grecian Hist.)
     A league of states of ancient Greece; esp. the celebrated
     confederation known as the Amphictyonic Council. Its object
     was to maintain the common interests of Greece.
