  Acrocarpous \Ac`ro*car"pous\, a. [Gr. ? extreme, highest + ?
     fruit.] (Bot.)
     (a) Having a terminal fructification; having the fruit at the
         end of the stalk.
     (b) Having the fruit stalks at the end of a leafy stem, as in
         certain mosses.
