  Acipenser \Ac`i*pen"ser\, prop. n. [L., the name of a fish.]
     (Zool.)
     A genus of ganoid fishes, including the sturgeons, having the
     body armed with bony scales, and the mouth on the under side
     of the head. See {Sturgeon}.
