  butyl mercaptan \bu"tyl mer*cap"tan\, n. (Chem.)
     A volatile liquid, {C4H9.SH}, having a strong odor like that
     of a skunk; also called {butanethiol}. All three isomers,
     normal, sec-, and tert-butanethiol possess the skunk odor.
