  Nerka \Ner"ka\, n. [Russ. niarka, prob. fr. native name.]
     (Zool.)
     The most important salmon of Alaska ({Oncorhinchus nerka}),
     ascending in spring most rivers and lakes from Alaska to
     Oregon, Washington, and Idaho; -- called also {red salmon},
     {redfish}, {blueback}, and {sawqui}.
